Catrinas en Mi Ciudad was created in 2023 by Alexis Newton and Marisol Villagomez and is an outdoor cultural art exhibit that honors and celebrates Día de Muertos at Sculpture Park at Denver Performing Arts Complex. The immersive art exhibit is inspired by Mexico’s Día de Muertos where 30+ larger-than-life Catrinas (skeletons) imagined and created by internationally acclaimed costume and set designer Ricardo Soltero are showcased. The annual event is free of charge and provides a day filled with art, culture, and celebration to the Mile High City and to the grounds of one of the city’s most symbolic arts venues. Activities provided include face painting, sugar skull decorating for kids, and live music performances.
Artist Ricardo Soltero is originally from Nayarit, Mexico and he is known for his great talent designing sets and costumes. He is behind major productions and cultural celebrations in California, such as the Día de Muertos event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and the Bésame Mucho Music Fest in Los Angeles.
This annual event is supported by Denver Arts & Venues.
Join us on October 19th for this year’s event! More information coming soon.
